A new addition to Sunshine Central Penang is Manzen Ishiya, a branch by Manzen but focusing on Ishiyaki concept (stone-grilled). The restaurant is located on the 2nd floor of Sunshine Central (near to the hotel wing). The Japanese restaurant offers a big menu, apart from the Ishiyaki-focused dishes, there are plenty of familiar Japanese delights. Dishes are reasonably priced with generous serving portions. Definitely a good choice in Sunshine Central Penang.
We started with the various Sushi- all were decent. The Salmon Sushi was fresh and the vinegared Sushi Rice was nicely done. Not to say top-notch but for the prices, they were decent. For the Ishiyaki set, we had both the Teriyaki Chicken and Sukiyaki Gyudon. We prefer the former one- the Teriyaki Chicken was expertly cooked with a tender-juicy texture. The accompanying Spring Onions were spot on and everything went well with the Rice. The Gyudon was fine but slightly under-seasoned. Good value in return nevertheless. For noodles- we had the Curry Udon with Chicken Katsu, while my partner thought the Curry was slightly watered down, I thought it was fine considering the piping hot stone pot was constantly warming the noodles (to prevent the noodles being burnt). The Chicken Katsu was fine.
