Ho Kee Restaurant 好记海鲜煮炒 @ Jelutong, Penang.

Managed by the J&J group of restaurants, Ho Kee Restaurant 好记海鲜煮炒 can be found at Jalan Perak Jelutong (right next to Sunshine Jelutong Penang). The Chinese restaurant has other branches across Penang island and they have lured in many customers due to their competitive pricing strategy as well as good variety of dishes suitable for casual family eat-outs. Pretty standard zhu-char setup with no air-conditioning... many have shared their disastrous dining experience especially on the waiting time but it did not happen on us. But to be fair, we went at 5PM so our dining experience was okay.

Stir Fried Egg with Crab Meat and Imitation Shark's Fin 鱼翅蛋 (Rm 10/ small)

Sizzling Tofu 铁板豆腐 (Rm 12/ small)

Sesame Chicken 麻油鸡 (Rm 14/ small)

Stir Fried Pork Belly with Salted Fish 咸鱼花腩 (Rm 12/ small)

Stir Fried Clams with Ginger and Spring Onions 姜葱蛤蜊 (Rm 12/ small)

All of the dishes come with serving size options. There were only 4 of us and we would prefer to try variety so we had the small sized dishes. The serving size was indeed 'small' and would fit if the dining group is 2-4 pax; otherwise, you should consider to go for at least medium or large portions. Our favorites for the meal were the Stir Fried Vegetables with Sambal and Stir Fried Egg with Crab Meat and Imitation Shark's Fin. The former one was cooked with a delicious Sambal and the Vegetables were expertly cooked to the right crunch. The latter one was simply a dish that could not go wrong. The rest of the dishes were disappointingly average. Nothing is beyond ordinary here... but the prices are competitive and definitely a good option for a budget family meal.
